The VirtualMD method
How we work together
Hormonal changes can affect sleep, energy, mood, weight, menstrual cycles, and overall quality of life. At VirtualMD, Dr. Patel looks beyond a single symptom or lab value to understand your broader medical picture. Your care combines thoughtful evaluation, appropriate testing, evidence-based treatment, and ongoing virtual follow-up — so you have a physician who understands how your hormonal, metabolic, and overall health fit together.
- 01
Comprehensive Health & Symptom Assessment
You complete a detailed digital intake covering your menstrual history, symptoms, medications, sleep, metabolic health, and health goals.
- 02
Targeted Laboratory Evaluation
When clinically appropriate, Dr. Patel orders focused laboratory testing through a local facility near your Washington home to evaluate contributing conditions and establish appropriate safety baselines.
- 03
Dedicated Virtual Consultation
You meet with Dr. Patel by video to review your history, symptoms, available results, and treatment options together.
- 04
Individualized Treatment Plan
When appropriate, your care may include hormone therapy, non-hormonal medications, metabolic treatment, contraception, lifestyle strategies, or other evidence-based approaches tailored to your medical needs.
- 05
Ongoing Symptom & Health Tracking
You can track relevant symptoms, cycles, blood pressure, weight, and other health information between visits so Dr. Patel can see how your health is changing over time.
- 06
Proactive Follow-Up
Virtual follow-ups allow Dr. Patel to evaluate treatment response, review appropriate safety monitoring, and adjust your care as your needs change.
Women's Health Is Whole-Body Health
Hormonal transitions are part of a woman's overall health — not something she should simply be expected to endure. At VirtualMD, we look at the whole picture, from metabolic and thyroid health to reproductive and cardiovascular risk, and build care around the individual.

What to expect
What your care may involve
Hormone replacement therapy demands exact clinical safety and medical precision. Dr. Patel uses local Washington diagnostic networks to monitor your endocrine health. The panels below are the full scope of what can be ordered for this service — your own testing is selected from them based on your symptoms and history, not run as a standard set.
What may be ordered —
7 options
Service-Specific Labs, Monitoring, & Hormone Safety
- 01Female hormone panels — tracking of Estradiol, Progesterone, Total and Free Testosterone, Sex Hormone-Binding Globulin (SHBG), DHEA-S, Luteinizing Hormone (LH), and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH)
- 02Metabolic and insulin tracking — fasting insulin, fasting glucose and Hemoglobin A1C, which often explain why weight is so difficult to shift with PCOS
- 03Thyroid testing — TSH, Free T3, Free T4 and Thyroid Peroxidase (TPO) antibodies, to identify an underactive thyroid that may be contributing to your symptoms
- 04Organ, lipid and blood-count safety — Complete Blood Count (CBC), Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP) and lipid testing, to monitor your overall metabolic health and liver function
Individualized Treatment Options
- 05Hormone Therapy — when clinically appropriate, Dr. Patel may prescribe FDA-approved hormone therapies, including estrogen and progesterone formulations, based on your symptoms, medical history, risks, and treatment goals
- 06PCOS & Metabolic Care — Dr. Patel addresses the metabolic and hormonal components of PCOS through evidence-based lifestyle strategies, appropriate medications, cycle management, and ongoing monitoring
- 07Birth Control Management — Dr. Patel can help evaluate contraceptive options, including pills, patches, and vaginal rings, based on your medical history, blood pressure, cardiovascular risk factors, preferences, and reproductive goals
Hormone therapy is not appropriate for everyone
Your individual cardiovascular, cancer, clotting, liver, reproductive, and other health considerations are reviewed before treatment.
Care that connects the dots.
Your labs, your symptoms and your history read together by one physician who knows all three — not three results filed separately.
Honest fit
Is VirtualMD the right fit for you?
Who this is for
- Washington women looking for high-touch internal medicine care focused on hormonal, metabolic, and reproductive health.
- Women experiencing perimenopause or menopause symptoms who want individualized, physician-led care.
- Patients with PCOS who want their metabolic and hormonal health addressed together.
- Women who want thoughtful contraception management rather than an automated prescription process.
- Women who value private, unhurried virtual care and ongoing physician support.
What needs an in-person visit
- VirtualMD does not perform pelvic examinations, Pap tests, mammograms, ultrasounds, or other in-person procedures.
VirtualMD is an outpatient virtual practice and is not for acute surgical or gynecological emergencies. If you experience sudden, severe lower abdominal or pelvic pain, heavy bleeding accompanied by dizziness or weakness, fainting, severe chest pain, sudden shortness of breath, or other potentially life-threatening symptoms, call 911 or go to the nearest Emergency Room.
Physical Screening & Specialist Coordination
Dr. Patel can help identify when these services are appropriate and coordinate referrals to local OB/GYNs, imaging centers, fertility specialists, or other clinicians when an in-person evaluation is needed.
Can VirtualMD help with perimenopause and menopause symptoms?
Yes. Dr. Patel evaluates symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disruption, mood changes, vaginal symptoms, menstrual changes, and other concerns in the context of your overall health. When appropriate, treatment may include hormone therapy or non-hormonal options. The decision is individualized based on your symptoms, medical history, risks, and preferences.
Do I need hormone blood tests to diagnose perimenopause?
Not necessarily. Hormone levels can fluctuate significantly during the menopause transition, so routine hormone testing is not generally needed to identify typical perimenopause symptoms. Dr. Patel determines whether laboratory testing is useful based on your individual symptoms, history, age, medications, and other clinical considerations.
What is your approach to PCOS?
Dr. Patel looks at PCOS as a whole-body metabolic and hormonal condition. Depending on your individual situation, care may include evaluation of metabolic risk, menstrual irregularities, androgen-related symptoms, weight concerns, blood sugar, and cardiovascular risk. Treatment is tailored to your goals and may include lifestyle strategies, medications, and cycle management.
Do you prescribe hormone therapy for menopause?
When clinically appropriate, yes. Dr. Patel evaluates whether hormone therapy is a reasonable option based on your symptoms, medical history, risk factors, and treatment goals. FDA-approved hormone therapies are available in multiple forms, including estrogen patches, gels, and oral formulations, as well as progesterone options.
Can I get birth control through VirtualMD?
Yes. Dr. Patel can evaluate your medical history, blood pressure, medications, cardiovascular risk factors, and reproductive goals to determine which contraceptive options may be appropriate. If prescribed, your medication can be sent to your local or preferred pharmacy.
What happens if I need a Pap smear, mammogram, pelvic ultrasound, or another in-person service?
VirtualMD coordinates the parts of your care that require an in-person facility. Dr. Patel can review your preventive-care needs, order or coordinate appropriate testing when clinically indicated, and refer you to an OB/GYN, imaging center, fertility specialist, or other local clinician when a physical examination or procedure is needed.
