How we work together
You don’t need to know exactly what’s wrong before you contact us. Tell us what you’re experiencing, how long you’ve been sick, and what’s changed. Dr. Patel evaluates your symptoms, medical history, medications, and available home measurements to determine whether your condition can be safely managed virtually.

Share your symptoms, when they started, what has changed, and any relevant home readings such as temperature, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, or blood glucose.

Virtual Clinical Evaluation
Dr. Patel reviews your symptoms and medical history during your virtual visit and determines what can safely be evaluated through telemedicine.

Testing When Appropriate
If your symptoms require additional information, Dr. Patel can order appropriate laboratory testing or diagnostic studies at a facility near you.

Personalized Treatment Plan
Depending on the diagnosis, treatment may include supportive care, prescription medication, monitoring, or additional testing. Antibiotics are used only when clinically appropriate.

Follow-Up & Monitoring
If your illness needs reassessment, you can follow up virtually to review your progress, test results, or response to treatment.

Escalation When Needed
If your condition cannot be safely managed virtually, Dr. Patel will direct you to an appropriate in-person clinician, urgent care center, emergency department, or specialist.
Can VirtualMD Help With This?
Sometimes the answer is that you need to be seen in person. That’s part of good medical care. If Dr. Patel determines that you need a physical examination, imaging, testing, or another level of care, he will tell you where to go rather than trying to force a virtual visit to do something it cannot safely do.

Depending on your symptoms, Dr. Patel may do any of the following. A prescription is never automatic — some illnesses, including many viral respiratory infections, improve with supportive care rather than antibiotics.

Not for emergencies. VirtualMD is not an emergency department and virtual care should never delay emergency treatment. If you are experiencing severe difficulty breathing, severe chest pain, sudden confusion, loss of consciousness, signs of stroke, severe bleeding, or another potentially life-threatening condition, call 911 or go to the nearest Emergency Department immediately.
If You Need to Be Seen in Person
You won’t be left guessing. If your condition requires a physical examination, imaging, urgent testing, or another level of care, Dr. Patel will explain why and direct you toward the appropriate in-person resource.
Can I really get a same-day sick visit?
When same-day appointments are available, yes. VirtualMD is designed to make physician evaluation easier when you develop a common, non-emergency illness. Availability may vary based on scheduling and clinical circumstances.
Can you prescribe antibiotics for infections?
If an infection appears likely to require antibiotic treatment, Dr. Patel can prescribe an appropriate medication when clinically indicated. However, antibiotics are not appropriate for every infection. Many respiratory illnesses, including uncomplicated acute bronchitis, are viral and improve without antibiotics.
Can you treat a UTI virtually?
Many uncomplicated UTIs can be evaluated through telemedicine. Dr. Patel will review your symptoms, medical history, risk factors, and any available testing to determine whether virtual treatment is appropriate. If your symptoms suggest a more complicated infection or require an examination or additional testing, you may be directed to in-person care.
What if I have the flu or COVID-19?
Dr. Patel can evaluate your symptoms and risk factors, recommend appropriate testing when needed, and determine whether antiviral treatment or supportive care is appropriate. Your treatment plan depends on your individual circumstances and how early you are evaluated.
What if I have a rash?
Some common rashes and minor skin irritations can be evaluated virtually using a secure image upload when available, together with your medical history and symptom description. If the appearance or symptoms suggest that an in-person examination or dermatology evaluation is necessary, Dr. Patel will recommend the appropriate next step.
What happens if you determine I need to be seen in person?
You won’t be left guessing. If your condition requires a physical examination, imaging, urgent testing, or another level of care, Dr. Patel will explain why and direct you toward the appropriate in-person resource. Virtual care is not about keeping everything virtual at all costs — it’s about getting you to the right level of care.
