The VirtualMD method

How we work together

Low energy, reduced libido, erectile difficulties, changes in body composition, hair loss, sleep problems, and urinary symptoms can have many possible causes. Dr. Patel takes a comprehensive internal-medicine approach to understand what's actually contributing to your symptoms before recommending treatment. Rather than jumping straight to hormone therapy, we look at your overall health — including metabolic health, medications, sleep, cardiovascular risk, and relevant laboratory findings — to build an individualized plan.

  1. 01

    Comprehensive Men's Health Intake

You complete a detailed health history covering energy, libido, sexual health, sleep, medications, body-composition changes, urinary symptoms, and your long-term health goals.

  2. 02

    Hormone & Metabolic Evaluation

When clinically appropriate, Dr. Patel orders morning hormone testing and relevant metabolic, thyroid, blood-count, and other laboratory studies through a local Washington facility.

  3. 03

    Personalized Virtual Consultation

You meet with Dr. Patel by secure video to review your symptoms, laboratory results, medical history, and potential contributing factors.

  4. 04

    Root-Cause Treatment Planning

If a reversible contributor such as excess weight, poor sleep, medication effects, or metabolic disease is identified, treatment focuses on addressing that underlying issue.

  5. 05

    Targeted Symptom Management

When clinically appropriate, Dr. Patel can prescribe medications for conditions such as erectile dysfunction or male-pattern hair loss and coordinate fulfillment through your pharmacy.

  6. 06

    Continuous Monitoring

Follow-up care allows Dr. Patel to track symptoms, laboratory trends, treatment response, and overall health and adjust your plan when clinically appropriate.

Men's Health Is Whole-Body Health

Your hormones don't operate in isolation. Sleep, metabolism, cardiovascular health, medications, stress, and other medical conditions can all influence how you feel and function. At VirtualMD, we look at the whole picture before deciding what treatment makes sense for you.

What to expect

What your care may involve

Dr. Patel uses appropriate laboratory testing to investigate symptoms and identify potential contributors to hormonal and metabolic concerns.

What may be ordered —

9 options

Hormone, Metabolic & Men's Health Testing

  • 01Hormone Evaluation — total testosterone and, when indicated, free testosterone, SHBG, LH, FSH, prolactin, and other hormone testing based on your symptoms and clinical history
  • 02Metabolic Health — A1C, glucose, lipid testing, and other metabolic markers when appropriate
  • 03Thyroid & Organ Function — thyroid, kidney, and liver testing when clinically indicated
  • 04Blood & Prostate Health — CBC and PSA testing when appropriate based on your age, symptoms, risk factors, and treatment considerations
  • 05Sleep & Lifestyle Factors — evaluation of sleep quality, weight, medications, and other factors that may contribute to fatigue, sexual symptoms, or hormonal changes

Evidence-Based Men's Health Treatment

  • 06Metabolic & Lifestyle Treatment — weight management, sleep optimization, nutrition, physical activity, and treatment of underlying metabolic conditions when they are contributing to symptoms
  • 07Erectile Dysfunction Treatment — prescription medications such as sildenafil or tadalafil may be appropriate for some patients after reviewing cardiovascular health, medications, and potential contraindications
  • 08Hair Loss Treatment — evidence-based prescription options such as finasteride or minoxidil may be considered when appropriate
  • 09Hormonal Evaluation & Management — if true testosterone deficiency is identified, Dr. Patel evaluates the underlying cause and discusses appropriate treatment options based on your individual health, goals, risks, and clinical circumstances

An Important Note About Testosterone Testing

A single low testosterone result does not automatically mean you have hypogonadism.

When testosterone deficiency is suspected, appropriate diagnosis generally requires compatible symptoms together with consistently low testosterone levels, with repeat early-morning testing used to confirm the finding. Additional testing may help determine whether the cause is related to the testes, pituitary/hypothalamic system, medications, metabolic health, or another condition.

Care that connects the dots.

Your labs, your symptoms and your history read together by one physician who knows all three — not three results filed separately.

Honest fit

Is VirtualMD the right fit for you?

Who this is for

  • Want a physician-led approach to men's health rather than an automated hormone program.
  • Want your symptoms evaluated in the context of your overall health.
  • Want to understand why you're experiencing changes in energy, libido, sexual function, or body composition.
  • Prefer ongoing virtual care with regular physician follow-up.
  • Live anywhere in Washington State and want convenient access to physician-guided men's health care.

What needs an in-person visit

  • Conditions requiring immediate emergency evaluation.
  • Problems requiring an in-person physical examination, procedure, imaging, or specialty intervention that cannot safely be handled virtually.
  • Patients seeking testosterone or other controlled-substance treatment solely on the basis of symptoms without appropriate medical evaluation.

Controlled-Substance Boundary

VirtualMD does not prescribe DEA-controlled substances as part of its men's health program, including testosterone replacement products.

Our approach is to evaluate the underlying causes of your symptoms and provide evidence-based non-controlled treatment options when appropriate.

If your medical condition requires treatment outside VirtualMD's scope, Dr. Patel coordinates referral to an appropriate endocrinologist, urologist, or other specialist.

Men's health concerns can sometimes involve medical emergencies. Call 911 or seek immediate emergency care for symptoms such as sudden chest pain, severe shortness of breath, fainting, stroke-like symptoms, or a sudden painful erection.

Need a Specialist?

If your evaluation suggests a condition requiring in-person examination, advanced testing, surgery, specialized endocrine care, or urologic intervention, Dr. Patel coordinates referral to an appropriate specialist near you. VirtualMD remains part of your care team where appropriate, helping keep your medical care connected rather than leaving you to navigate the next step alone.

Do you prescribe testosterone replacement therapy?

Testosterone replacement therapy is not prescribed through VirtualMD's men's health program.

Instead, Dr. Patel evaluates symptoms and laboratory findings to determine whether testosterone deficiency may be present and looks for potentially reversible contributors such as obesity, sleep disorders, medications, or other medical conditions.

If your evaluation indicates that specialized hormone treatment is appropriate, Dr. Patel can coordinate referral to an endocrinologist or other appropriate specialist.

Current clinical guidance emphasizes that testosterone deficiency should be diagnosed using compatible symptoms together with consistently low testosterone measurements, rather than symptoms or a single laboratory result alone.

Why do you evaluate the underlying cause before treating low testosterone?

Low testosterone symptoms can overlap with many other medical conditions. Fatigue, reduced libido, mood changes, sleep problems, weight gain, and reduced muscle mass can have metabolic, medication-related, sleep-related, psychological, or other medical causes.

Dr. Patel looks at the broader picture so treatment is directed at the problem — not simply the laboratory number.

Can Dr. Patel help me with Erectile Dysfunction?

Yes. Erectile dysfunction can sometimes be an early indicator of cardiovascular or metabolic disease, so Dr. Patel looks beyond the symptom itself.

When clinically appropriate, medications such as sildenafil or tadalafil may be prescribed after reviewing your medical history, medications, cardiovascular health, and potential contraindications.

Can you help with hair loss?

Yes. Dr. Patel can evaluate common causes of male-pattern hair loss and, when appropriate, prescribe evidence-based treatments such as finasteride or minoxidil.

If your symptoms suggest another cause of hair loss or require specialized dermatologic evaluation, he can coordinate a referral.

How do I get my men's health lab work done?

Dr. Patel can electronically order appropriate laboratory testing through a local facility near your Washington home.

For testosterone evaluation, testing may need to be performed in the morning and, when indicated, repeated to confirm the result. Your laboratory results are returned to the care team for physician review, and Dr. Patel discusses the findings with you during your virtual follow-up.

What if my evaluation shows that I need an endocrinologist or urologist?

That's where coordinated care matters.

If your evaluation reveals a condition requiring specialized endocrine or urologic care, Dr. Patel can coordinate referral to an appropriate specialist in Washington and provide the relevant clinical information needed for the next stage of your care.

You don't have to figure out where to go next on your own.
