The VirtualMD method

How we work together

Dr. Patel combines evidence-based medical management with ongoing virtual support to understand the biological, metabolic, behavioral, and health factors influencing your weight. Together, we build a personalized plan focused on sustainable weight management and better overall health—without the traditional waiting-room hassle.

  1. 01

    Comprehensive metabolic intake

You complete an in-depth health history covering your weight history, previous treatment attempts, medications, medical conditions, lifestyle and health goals.

  2. 02

    Targeted diagnostic lab work

When clinically appropriate, Dr. Patel orders laboratory testing through a local facility near your Washington home to establish a useful medical baseline.

  3. 03

    Personalized video consultation

You and Dr. Patel meet virtually to review your history and results, discuss realistic goals, identify factors affecting your weight, and develop an individualized treatment plan.

  4. 04

    Medication management

When clinically appropriate, Dr. Patel may prescribe medication as part of your weight-management plan and coordinates prescription fulfillment through your pharmacy.

  5. 05

    Continuous progress monitoring

Your weight, relevant health measures, treatment response and other clinical trends are monitored over time rather than judged by a single visit.

  6. 06

    Adaptive care adjustments

Follow-up care allows Dr. Patel to evaluate effectiveness, monitor tolerance and side effects, adjust treatment when appropriate, and help you maintain progress over time.

Weight Management Is Medical Care

Weight management is not simply a matter of willpower. Biology, medications, sleep, nutrition, activity, environment and other health factors can all influence weight. At VirtualMD, we look at the whole picture and build a medical plan around you.

Medication Management

When clinically appropriate, Dr. Patel may prescribe FDA-approved medications used for weight management or related metabolic conditions.

Medication decisions are individualized. Your medical history, current medications, health conditions, treatment goals, response to therapy and potential risks are considered before treatment is started or adjusted.

When medication is prescribed, Dr. Patel monitors effectiveness, tolerance, side effects and overall progress, and adjusts treatment when clinically appropriate.

Care that connects the dots.

Your labs, your symptoms and your history read together by one physician who knows all three — not three results filed separately.

Honest fit

Is VirtualMD the right fit for you?

Who this is for

  • Live anywhere in Washington and want physician-guided medical weight management.
  • Want a science-based approach rather than another short-term diet.
  • Want your weight concerns considered alongside your broader metabolic and cardiovascular health.
  • Prefer ongoing virtual care with regular physician follow-up.
  • Want a personalized treatment plan rather than a one-size-fits-all program.

What needs an in-person visit

  • Acute emergencies or conditions requiring immediate in-person evaluation. VirtualMD provides ongoing medical weight management, not emergency care.
  • Conditions that require an in-person examination, procedure, or level of care that cannot safely be provided virtually.

If you are experiencing severe chest pain, sudden severe shortness of breath, fainting, severe or worsening abdominal pain, or another potentially life-threatening emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department immediately.

Need a specialist?

If your health profile suggests that bariatric surgery, a multidisciplinary weight-management program, or another specialty service may be appropriate, Dr. Patel coordinates referral to an appropriate specialist or program in your area. Virtual care does not mean you are on your own — when care needs to extend beyond VirtualMD, we help connect the pieces.

Can VirtualMD prescribe medications such as Wegovy, Zepbound, Ozempic or Mounjaro for weight management?

When clinically appropriate, Dr. Patel may prescribe FDA-approved medications used for weight management or related metabolic conditions. Eligibility depends on your medical history, current health, medications, treatment goals and the specific medication being considered.

Medication is only one part of the treatment plan, and it is not appropriate for everyone.

How do I get my lab work done if VirtualMD is 100% online?

Dr. Patel can electronically order appropriate laboratory testing through a local laboratory facility in Washington. You complete the blood work in person and the results are returned for physician review. Your care is virtual; the testing itself happens at an appropriate local facility.

Does VirtualMD cover the cost of weight-loss medications?

Your membership covers your physician-directed medical care, virtual visits and ongoing monitoring according to your membership plan. Prescription medications are separate from the membership fee.

When medication is clinically appropriate, Dr. Patel can send your prescription to an appropriate participating pharmacy, and VirtualMD may be able to offer access to discounted medication pricing through participating pharmacy partners.

The pharmacy handles payment, fulfillment, packaging and shipping directly with you. You receive the medication at home and pay the pharmacy directly — you do not pay VirtualMD for the medication. Pricing and availability vary by medication, pharmacy, eligibility and current program availability.

What happens if I experience side effects from medication?

Tell Dr. Patel about new or concerning symptoms rather than trying to manage significant side effects on your own.

Depending on the situation, he may adjust the treatment plan, modify medication, provide supportive guidance, or determine that you need an in-person evaluation. Severe or potentially life-threatening symptoms require emergency care.

How long will I need medication-assisted weight management?

There is no single timeline that applies to everyone. Obesity is a chronic medical condition, and some patients benefit from longer-term treatment or maintenance therapy. Others may eventually reduce or discontinue medication under medical supervision.

Dr. Patel evaluates your response, health goals, medical risks and overall progress to determine what makes sense for you.

What if I need bariatric surgery or another specialist?

Dr. Patel looks at your overall health and treatment response. If bariatric surgery, a multidisciplinary weight-management program, or another specialist evaluation becomes appropriate, he can coordinate the referral and help manage the medical care surrounding that transition.
